Razor E125 Electric Scooter Review

Razor E125 Electric Scooter Review

My 8-year-old son asked me for a motorized scooter a few months ago, and at first, I was a little bit concerned. I had seen some of the teenagers in our neighborhood buzzing around on motorized electric scooters and some of them seemed to go pretty fast. I did a little online snooping about electric scooters and was happy to find the Razor E125 Electric Scooter.

This scooter is made for younger kids. It doesn’t go as fast as some of the scooters that I had seen the older kids riding. I talked it over with my wife, and we decided that it would be a great birthday present, so we bought him the Razor E125 Electric Scooter for his birthday a few months after he initially asked for it.

Built for younger, smaller riders

The Razor E125 Electric Scooter is a scooter that is really good for young riders or anyone up to 120 lbs. The scooter seems durable enough to hold heavier riders, but I don’t think it would be good for the motor to put too much stress on it. Speaking of the motor, I was impressed with the motor on the Razor E125 Electric Scooter right from the start.

Some of the other scooters I looked at when I was checking the different models out, had some pretty cheap looking, belt-driven motors. This motor appears to be built to last and is chain driven. I’m not an engineer, but I know that chain driven motors hold up better over time than the belt drive models.

Not only is the motor built solidly, but it also holds a pretty decent charge too. My son averages about 45 minutes at a pop before he has to get the motor charged up again. It takes a while to get it fully charged, but once it is, there’s plenty of fun riding time for my sun to buzz around the neighborhood.

Pros:

  • Safe speed for young riders. The Razor E125 Electric Scooter is made for young riders. The top speed is only around 10 mph. Some scooters can get up to over 15 mph, and that just seems too fast for a young rider.
  • Great battery life. The 45-minute charge that the Razor E125 Electric Scooter’s motor holds is just about perfect for young riders. No kid is going to go on long rides, so the 45-minute charge keeps my son close to home on all of his rides.
  • Twist grip acceleration. This is a cool little feature that makes the little guys feel like they’re riding on a motorcycle. My son has a blast revving the engine up when he rides.
  • Easy to assemble. I didn’t even have to get out any tools to put this scooter together. It comes with great directions, minimal assembly steps, and a tool is included for the few assembly steps that you have to do.

Cons:

  • A running start is necessary. The motor for the Razor E125 Electric Scooter will not kick in until riders have the scooter going at least 3 mph. We missed that note in the documentation and thought the thing was broke until we figured it out.
  • Plastic rear wheel. The rear wheel, for some reason, is made of plastic. After a bit of riding, it seems to lose some of its ability to roll as good as when it was new. This isn’t a deal breaker, but it is a little odd that the rear wheel would be made like this.

For younger riders, you’re probably not going to find a better electric scooter. The Razor E125 Electric Scooter keeps them moving but at a safe, reasonable speed. This is simply a great electric scooter for young and small scooter riders.
